Dog Grooming by Helen operates on an appointment only basis

I have weekday, evening and weekend appointments available and will do my utmost to work in an appointment to suit your busy lives.

* Under extenuating circumstances I may be able to accommodate a time outside of the Salon’s normal operating hours.

Appointment Times

It is always difficult to estimate how long a groom will to take but on average a small to medium dog which is well behaved, in decent condition and groomed regularly can expect to take approx 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours. New visitors, puppies, larger dogs and dogs with matted coats or challenging behaviours can expect to be longer. An approximate length of time will be advised when I meet you and your dog but please understand that it is an estimate as it is my intention to give all clients the best result but with the sole aim of always putting your dog first; so kindly request your patience if the appointment does take longer than the estimate given.

I am sure you will appreciate that every appointment made is allocated a time slot to your dog’s specific needs. This is why I kindly request that you and your dog arrive promptly for appointments and collections AND PLEASE make sure your dog has been walked and toileted beforehand.

Please note: appointments are best booked in advance if you have specific days and times in mind, so book early to avoid any disappointment. If you need further information about the salon, or just want to chat about your dog’s grooming session please call me on 01409 240222 or 07800 573012.

Cancellations/Missed Appointments

Whilst it is understood that sometimes appointments have to be cancelled and rearranged in an emergency, please ensure that you give me at least 24 hours notice where possible, prior to appointment cancellation so I can offer your slot to another client.

Dog Grooming by Helen reserves the right to charge a fee of £15 for appointments missed or cancelled with less than 24 hours notice payable prior to any future booking.

Special Offers/Discounts

Some important facts about matts

Matts are a serious problem and if left unattended may be harmful to your dog. When matts become very close to the skin it may cut off the blood circulation to that particular area. Serious matts can be painful to your dog. If your dog’s coat is not regularly groomed, the skin can’t breathe properly, it may become torn and infection could set in. In seriously matted dogs, every movement will create pain.

Should your pet snap when being touched, or start dragging and scratching itself, matts could be the reason why. The ‘hot spots’ for matts are underneath the armpits, the chest, behind the ears, the rear end and around the tail, but they can occur anywhere on your dog. We all love our dogs and their happiness is of the utmost importance to us. Grooming is an essential part of their welfare. A well groomed dog is a happy dog.

If your require any advice on grooming your dog such as what tools to use, how to hold your dog and what to look for when trying to locate a matt, then please do not hesitate to ask me.

Dematting Policy

Minor matt removal is part of the normal grooming service provided but it takes a great deal of care and practice to undertake. As part of the general grooming services provided at Dog Grooming by Helen, each dog will be assessed on an individual basis and if after careful consideration for your pet’s welfare a clip off is the best course of action and can be achieved in the salon environment I will discuss the procedure and cost.

To demonstrate good practice, Dog Grooming by Helen abides by sector specific charters including the Animal Welfare Act (2006).

DOG GROOMING BY HELEN WILL ALWAYS DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOUR DOG AND IF A CLIP OFF IS THE KINDEST COURSE OF ACTION, THIS WILL BE ADVISED ACCORDINGLY.
